Snow In Arizona?
Well it started to snow last night around 6:30. It is usually about 10 degrees colder here than in Oro Valley where we just moved from. We are now up at 4000 ft and Oro Valley was at 2000 ft. So we have seen snow flurries a couple of times since we moved here, but it never sticks to the ground. You also have to catch it fast. It usually is just a tiny bit blowing in the wind and lasts like 15 minutes.
Well I was at work last night from 6pm-10pm. At about 8pm my boss told me that he was about to head off to bed and that I should move my Jeep under the car port so I don't have to scrape all the snow off. I go outside and sure enough... My Jeep was covered in snow!!! We have a few people from the military that live in our rooms for a few months. I started getting calls at 9:30pm from the base letting them know their classes were canceled for the next day.
I was getting all excited thinking we were going to get a snow day. Everyone kept saying if it sticks to the ground at all here they cancel school. Thank goodness for the third shift woman's husband. When she came at 10pm my Jeep was covered in snow anyway so he scraped it off for me.
First thing in the morning I wake up and go online to see... Closed schools in: Willcox, Tombstone, Bisbee, Sunnyside, Douglas,Cochise College...Sierra Vista starting on time. Where is my snow day?
Every other school district in this county is closed but us! Even the base isn't starting AIT classes till 10am! So I wake up, make a pot of hot water for some cocoa, and get the kids ready. I turn on the radio and listen the whole time getting ready hoping there is some mistake and they will say school is closed. No such luck.
I get outside with the kids and start scraping the Jeep. In Arizona this just doesn't happen so we don't own ice scrapers. I get my handy dandy Pampered Chef bamboo stir fry scraper thing and go at the ice. LOL
The girls are all excited and want to hurry to school and play with friends in the snow. We get there and the kids have to go straight to class because "they could fall on ice if they were outside". Schools (here atleast) are not as fun as I remember. They are not allowed to run during recess "they could trip", They can not push swings "they could get kicked". I could go on but this isn't the topic of my rant today.
