When did you get your first job?

I have recently had to deal with the question of... When is the right time for your child to get a job? and Is it different for girls and boys?

My 14 1/2 year old daughter wants a summer job. I am very against it but I also tend to be over protective. I did not have a job until I was 18. My parents said that they wanted me to spend my time doing school work and with friends. I would have liked to have more of my own spending money but I really did not want a job.

My daughter is bugging me nonstop about getting a job. I have a few issues with it though.
  1. I would have to drive her to another town for her to get a job. We live in the middle of nowhere.
  2. For me to have the time to drive her, she would have to work on the days that I have free time. This is normally when we all spend time together and go on trips. She would then miss out on everything and interrupt our plans since I would have to drive her around.
  3. We have very busy lives as it is.
  4. She is very clumsy and does not really pay attention to anything she does.
  5. The place she wants to work at is a place that she tends to go and stare at all of the boys. I think she just wants to work with said boys.
  6. She has not been doing her chores around the house lately and I feel she should be responsible with her chores before she should be allowed to get a job.
So am I right in saying that it will be too much of an inconvenience and she does not need a job or would a good parent spend their only free time driving to and from the next town so they can have a job.

Kao Brands Sweepstakes

Image

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of KAO Brands. All opinions are 100% mine.

KAO Brands is doing a sweepstakes! You may know them better by some of the brands they have. They make great products like John Frieda® Haircare, Curél® Moisturizers, Jergens® Moisturizers, Bioré® Skincare, and Ban® Antiperspirants.

So what is the grand prize? oh nothing big... just a tempting trip to Las Vegas for you and 3 of your friends with $1,500 in spending money! That would be pretty awesome!

The Temptation is Beautiful sweepstakes also has a daily tempting beauty basket they are giving away everyday so be sure to enter everyday! With all of the great brands they make that basket would be a great prize on it's own.

As part of their sweepstakes they have a Temptress Temperature quiz that you can take. My score was "Just Right". I guess I am not just a boring mom after all. I am not quite a wild woman either though! I guess I should be happy that I am not totally boring by now.

If you are interested in these prizes head on over and check out Temptation is Beautiful. Make sure to take the quiz and send it to your friends for extra entries in the sweepstakes!

Woman's 1000 Pound Goal

Have you heard about the blogger in New Jersey that has a goal to gain weight until she reaches 1000 pounds? I have seen some crazy stunts to gain readers but this is just sick! Right now she weighs 600 pounds and holds the record for world's fattest mother.

Donna Simpson is 42 years old, married, and has two children. She eats 12,000 calories a day for a whopping $750 a week grocery bill. To pay for all of the food she charges people to watch her eat on webcam. Seriously... People pay to see her eat?

I feel bad for her children. She claims that she is healthy and not hurting anyone but her children are the ones that risk losing their mother.

I can not imagine why she would want to go for this goal. I guess some people will do anything for a tiny bit of fame.

A Summer Of Endless Sand

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of St Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches, Florida. All opinions are 100% mine.

Summer is finally coming and that means it is time to plan vacations. I would love to have a full week to get away but we are always stuck just doing small trips. Our lives are always too crazy and busy to do get away for very long. The small trips are better than nothing though.

I have moved across the country twice and been many places on vacations but I still have never been to Florida. It seems kind of odd to me. Most people see Florida as the perfect vacation and I have been everywhere but there.

St. Augustine looks like a beautiful place to go on vacation. It was founded in 1565 which makes it the oldest permanently settled city in the United States! The beautiful buildings show it's rich history which includes Spanish, Colonial, Victorian and Flagler-era.

They have beautiful golf courses and lots of shopping but I think I would just want to walk around and see the all of it's old world charm. I would also spend plenty of time on the 42 miles of sun-drenched Atlantic coastline that are all contained in St. Augustine , Ponte Vedra, and the Beaches.Who would want to plan out a whole trip in such a relaxing place? I would rather just do whatever comes my way. Even the hotels have an interesting charm. Check out this vanity area in the Castillo Real. Definitely not the average plain and boring hotel.

Parenthood on NBC

Have you see the new NBC show Parenthood yet? I absolutely love it! I am the only one in my family that watches it so I set it to record on the DVR and I always watch it alone. James has no interest in even trying to watch it but I think I will keep trying. He tends to come around and end up liking shows that I like after awhile.

There have been many family sitcoms but this one is different. This one is more real. They are not all perfect little rich families. They are not out there and crazy. They represent regular families with regular problems and they struggle with how to handle their problems just like we do.

The show is about the Braverman family. There are four adult siblings and their parents who are also struggling with life and their marriage. The oldest son and his wife find out that their son has Asperger’s Syndrome and their daughter is hiding that she has a boyfriend. A younger single son finds out that he has a 5 year old son. One daughter is a corporate attorney who is married to a stay at home dad. The other daughter is a single mother that is faced with moving her kids back home to live with her parents.

If you are interested in checking out the show you can catch up on previous shows on the NBC Parenthood website.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love how many of my old childhood favorites have come back so my kids can enjoy them too. I remember an Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas album that we had back when I was a little girl. I would play that thing over and over. They were great singalong songs.

When they started coming out with new movies I knew that my girls would love them. They are still just as cute and funny as they were when I was little.

Their new movie, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download and I want to buy it now. They make such great family movies.

There is also a Double DVD Pack that includes "The Squeak Along" Bonus Disc. That means more music, mayhem and all-new singalongs.

It is definitely a movie that you should check out. You can also check out some More Munk Mayhem on their website. My girls love that you can "Munk Yourself". You can design your own chipmunk and have fun picking out how it will look. My girls had a blast and did a lot of giggling!

The Fictitious Happy Homemaker

I absolutely love spring so why does it have to get ruined by spring cleaning? I will be the first to admit that I HATE CLEANING! I will do it when it really has to get done but I hate every minute of it. Are there people that actually like it?

When it comes to working somewhere I was the one that always cleaned but at home I just feel like there are better things to do.

As soon as I saw this picture I had to laugh. This is what men see as the ideal woman I guess. Forever cooking and cleaning... yet in full makeup, jewelry, a dress, and heals.

Does such a woman exist?

Get Outside & Get Active

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of wellnessdaily.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

As imperfect people we make many promises to ourselves that we end up breaking. One of the biggest promises we make to ourselves is to get active and healthy. We do this so often that we even created the tradition of New Years resolutions. Having a set day to start is supposed to help but they tend to not last very long.

Many ancient civilizations marked Spring as the beginning of the new year. I like that idea. This gives us a second chance at a fresh start. Spring is when everything outside comes to life so it is also a great time for us to come to life and make a change.

I am making a commitment to get more active again. We often get too busy and forget to make time for our own health. I have really enjoyed checking out www.wellnessdaily.com and all of the information on it. It is a great central place to reach your health goals.

You can customize your own personal health and wellness news feed according to what you want to know. This new online community provides the latest health news, blogs, expert opinions, nutritious recipes and videos on a variety of topics including weight loss, healthy eating, exercise and mental well-being.

Who would like to take the pledge of wellness with me? Sticking to it can be difficult if you go it alone so I am doing the buddy system with my 14 year old daughter. We can push each other to stick with it plus we will have some added bonding time.
